Best of luck today if you pitch, and remember:

you did an incredible job against china..so did Finch..but anyways thanks for sharing what you do in your daily lives..its really cool..learning how famous athletes do in their leisure time or their normal days..one thing i learned is any famous person is the same as everyone else..like you guys do basically the same thing we do..which is cool..and I love the fact that you are a reader and a movie watcher.. I like doing those things too.. The twilight series are a good one.. well keep up the great work..and you can count on us cheering you guys on late at night!

(p.S. if you dont get this right... ill be so mad at you)
Hi how are you. What state are you from? and what high school do you play for? It is amazing having Cat as my coach, she is an amazing person to work with and learn from. Now about getting seen by coaches, there are teams that you can play on that will give you a chance to be seen by other colleges and there are people that you can contact. there is one person i know that is specifically interested in getting people seen by coaches if you want to give him a call. His name is Tommy and his number is 908 246 5329. He is very well versed in helping kids getting into college and will steer you in the right direction.
hope this helps.

Congratulations to you and the entire team on a fabulous Silver medal performance. It would be natural to feel a bit of disappointment with today's outcome, but this will pass and with time you will be able to look back on Beijing with more satisfaction than regret. If softball is restored as an Olympic sport, as we will all be praying for and working toward, it will be in no small part because of the skill, sportsmanship, and honor which this '08 squad (players and coaches) has competed throughout, in victory as well as the rare defeat. An even more significant and enduring legacy of this quest may well be the many lives you and your teammates (Jessica Mendoza, in particular) have touched along the way, through your example. We are fortunate to have you wearing our uniform, and look forward to thanking you in person when you come through D.C again to play the Glory.
Warm regards,
Bill

I know you hear this alot, but you're amazing!
I went into a Dunham's the other day and I bought one of your DeMarini softball bats!
It's perfect.
In March of 2008, I joined my highschool Varsity Softball team as a freshmen.
My first year ever playing softball, ever.
It was the best experience of my life. You have no idea.
And I say Varsity becasue there weren't enough girls interested in softball to make a JV squad also. So becasue of that, I didn't play much.
But when I did play, I gave it my all.
But, now that the season is over and we're losing four of our loved seinors, I'll almost have a guaranteed spot of playing, next school year, in the spring.
I'm stoked!
Thought I might share this with you, Cat!

I know the loss was heartbreaking, but you still made us all back home proud. A lot of credit has to be given to the Japanese team and Ueno. They were extremely determined to get the gold by using her for 3 straight complete games. She was able to shut down the USA's offense; she's their ace for a reason. Seeing you girls cry at the end, makes us all want to shed some tears. After all that has happened, we all feel like we've been along on the journey, every step of the way. You girls will always have the gold in my eyes.
in all the games you gave your best, and thats all that counts. we are all SOOOOOO proud of you guys. you Are all such Amazing ball players, and i know that you fought so hard from the beginning win against Venezuela to the the very last pitch of japan. dont think about the score, think of all the great plays you made and how much people will fight for this amazing sport now to bring it back. you guys have put on an amazing game and fought hard. Dont worry about the score, your all champions t us, we love you and still look up to you SOO much. Have fun relaxing for the rest of the time,

My daughter, Kate admires you and hopes to be as great a player as yourself. Today your team lost a game but you all have done so much for the sport of softball that you are all winners. The saying "It's not if you win or loose but how you play the game is so very true in relation to you and your team mates. You've showed millions of girls everywhere what hard work and determination will do. You've set a high standard and level of excellence all can strive for but few will reach. Eleanor Roosevelt once said "No one can make you feel inferior but yourself". Don't hang your head but stand proud and know You are an Cat Osterman, You are THE CAT Osterman, You are an Olympian, You are a Member of the USA Softball Team, You are Softball!
God Bless,

It's Marty Kunz, from Houston. I wanted to tell you that, even though you are hurting, you should be proud and hold your head up. You are such an inspiration to so many young girls and women. You've helped elevate the sport of women's softball to one of "relevance" in the world. My daughters look up to you, as do so many other young softball players. Take pride in that, and take pride in what you have accomplished. You are a bright, intelligent, talented young lady.
I hate to lose, too. Most competitors do. In time, I hope that you will be able to carry with you a sense of satisfaction for all you've accomplished for yourself, the City of Houston, The University of Texas, Cy Springs High School, and Team USA. And I hope that sense of satisfaction overrides the feelings you have right now. I've watched you grow up, watched you become a great softball player, and watched you become such a great role model. Those are things not many people can say they've done.
Hold you head high, kid. I'm proud of you. Your parents are proud of you. Your many fans are proud of you. And we always will be.
Congratulations-
Marty
Hang in there. You guys are no doubt the best in the world!! Ya'lls record speaks for itself and we are all very proud of your play and character. You ladies have made girls/womens fast-pitch an ever growing sport that will endure even if the IOC fails to realize it.. You are great role models for young girls, with your hard work and dedication.
You know in fast-pitch, if you play a solid team, like the Japanese, enough times they will win 1 sooner or later.
I have played with and against your ex-coach, Bobby Smith, for a long time and have followed your career since he told me how special you were. I even caught him some, however could not hold his rise ball, especially when he crossed me up.
All of us from the Houston area are super proud of you and good luck in all your future endeavors.
GO FASTPITCH!!!

Cat...I am guy who started watching you because my elderly parents watched all thing Longhorn on TV at home. You have given thousands of young ladies something to strive towards and helped raise the level of discourse regarding women's sports tremendously.
Please don't let a silver medal get you or your teammates down.
From what I've seen and read about all of you, and I wouldn't recognize any of you if I ever saw y'all on the street, you guys are first rate athletes and while guys like T-O, and Pac-Man make and waste millions and their reputations, you guys do this because you love it.
I hope you guys continue loving this every minute that you are lucky enough to be on this planet.
From Walt Wilkens song "Trains I've Missed":
It's a big ol' world but I've found my way
And the hell and the hurt that led me straight to this
Here's to the trains, I've missed.
Give your teammates a supportive hand on the shoulder for me.
Hasta!

I want you and all the girls of the Women's Usa softball team to know that you are all number 1 in our eyes. You all went out there and gave it everything you have. My daughter looks up to all of you so much and I couldn't be more proud to have strong women like yourselves to be her role models. Please don't give up the game. We love watching you play. It always makes our day no matter what the outcome. I hope we will see you on the national team again and watch you win the world cup . We would also love to see you in the 2016 olympics up on the mound where you belong.

i cant believe what happened in the olympics. I am so sorry. You pitched a great game no matter how the score came out, you pitched an amazing game and i am so proud of you. Unfortunately things didnt go your way. I am so heartbroken for you guys. You deserved that gold medal, you worked so hard. And that work definately payed off. Yea a gold medal would be a great thing to have gotten but you did amazing. Wun or lose you are still the best pitcher ever and you are still #1 in my heaa=rt and always will be. And a silver medal still says a lot, and you dont need a gold medal to prove how good you are. You will always be a spectacular pitcher, if you have a gold medal or a silver medal. When i saw you crying my heart broke into a million pieces. I burst out crying. You did amazing, and know one can take that away from you. You are still fantastic and you are still my hero and always will be!!
You did an amazing job in the olympics, you are an insperation to me!
Love,
kelsey
I would like to THANK YOU and the entire USA Softball team for so many GREAT memories in the Olympics, I know today's game was difficult (I know because I still have not been able to get my 16 year old niece to talk to anyone today), but I hope that you know that YOU and the entire team have been the best role models for not only girls but for everyone in ANY sport. I consider it a privilege to say that I live in a country that no matter what happened today is the home of the BEST softball team and the BEST softball plays in the WORLD. I tell everyone I know that if they ever need a role model they should look to anyone (especially you) on the USA Softball team. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO JULY 16, 2009 WHEN THE 4TH WORLD CUP OF SOFTBALL WILL BE HELD IN OKLAHOMA CITY - WATCH OUT JAPAN THIS TEAM "WILL BE BACK"

YOUR BIGGEST HAPPIEST BESTEST FAN FROM NJ,
C.K.
Nothing anyone can say will make the experience you had last night against Japan any easier to accept, but hopefully it can help lift your spirits for the future. I did watch every game you played and I even got up at 3:30 in the morning to watch the Gold medal game against Japan. As I discussed things with my family after the game it was agreed that you can only face a team so many times in that short of time and not worry about the outcome. It seems unfair that Japan had that many chances to be in the Gold medal round. In fact when I looked at the way things were set up I believed that they were going to play the loser of the Australia-Canada game for the bronze and 4th place and the winner of the Aus-Canada game would play you for Gold/Silver. When I saw that Japan had another chance I seriously thought the way the tournament was set up needed some serious rethinking.
You all should hold your heads up high and when I think of the 2008 Olympics now and in the future I think of you guys, the United States of America softball team, not the medals you did or didn't win. You did awesome and I was so excited when I got to watch especially you on the mound. I loved it. You are the best pitcher in the world. And I am extremely greatful to you for signing the picture of you and me together at a game I was able to go watch in Irvine CA that I sent to you just before the Olympic games. That picture means (if you can believe it) even more now to me than it did before the Olympic games. I am so proud of that picture and of you, it is hung where everyone can see. My daughters ages 4 and 6 love watching the game and it is solely because of my love to watch especially you play, and they look forward to the day they are old enough to play. Thank you for that.
You are and will always be my hero and meeting you was dream come true (one I really didn't think ever would). Thank you, and I sure hope to see you still playing because your love of the game is so exciting to see.
Hold your head up you are the best.
pam
You did great today! GOOD JOB!! Words probably cannot describe what your going thru but just keep your head up. Your an awesome pitcher, great softball player & a very good role model for a lot of softball players. ( I have 4 of them & they all look up to you and so do I.) Stay STRONG!!!! Go USA!!!
I just want to say that we are all proud of you as you should be proud of yourself. In the end you gave it your all and you have nothing to be disappointed about. I know lossing is hard and nothing I say will ever make this sick feeling go away. However, remember that you are one of the best pitchers to ever play the game and don't ever forget that. As other people have said keep your head up be proud of what you have done and all the respect that you have been given. You have gotten respect because you have earned it and no one can ever take that away from you. Good luck.

It was indeed a pleasure to watch your performances since your collegs years.
I look forward to your return here to Austin to coach the Lady Longhorns, in a short time, I hope.
I wish you the very best in your time at DePaul in grad school, and coaching there.
God Bless you in all that you do.

Just wanted to share some thoughts!
Who knows what's good, who knows what's bad....sometimes things don't work out the way we envisioned them to...doesn't mean it wasn't good.
When I watched you pitch for the 1st time in the Olympics, I'll be honest...I didn't know who you were. But I couldn't stop watching and rooting...you're talent is so much more than softball alone.
I think you can tell by what people are saying in this blog, that you captured more than a gold medal from your fans.
It's a tribute to you and your teammates as well.
The pressure to keep the sport an olympic event, as well as the expectation of a gold medal, without it you may have felt you let your country men down...you haven't...if anything, you have so many more supporters than before...
Thank you for all of your efforts and many more great things are on the horizon for you....
Congrats on an extremely great run....and thanks for sharing with your fans!
Buddy
keep your chin up !!! you are the best !!!
You are the best softball player to ever play the game..you ARE SOFTBALL!!!
You guys need to come to Arkansas & play sometime. Take care.
You had an awesome run...we are all very proud and in complete amazement of how you and the team performed. Hold your head high and show off that beautiful medal. You are all true champions. Enjoy the closing ceremonies and best of luck at DuPaul. :)

I ask you not to worry about your future in softball, just keep playing whenever and whereever. Because of you and others softball has grown and this noone can stop. I am sure you will be in London. And as a now 48 year old lacrosse player I can tell you that you will still be a young and a lot smarter pitcher than you are now. You will just be hitting your prime.
I started to watch softball on ESPN after watching you at Texas and now watch women's basketball and soccer as well as all the other sports and the level of playing is amazing. Keep going as you can and do motivate people. I do not know you but I am proud of you.
Let your teammates know they have changed the world for girls everywhere annd to keep playing as long as they can. If they can get a 48 year old male lacrosse player to watch and enjoy the sport they can get anyone too.
First and foremost, a sincere thank you to you and the entire team for demonstrating such a spirit, level of skill, and high degree of integrity and sportsmanship during the tour and the games.
We all felt ur pain in the loss to Japan, but the only bad thing about that game is that there had to a winner....and your display of emotion was so honest !!
I have had the honor and priviledge of meeting you on 2 different occasions and have ur signed picture hanging there with several other items that over 30 years of being involved with fastpitch brings.
Cat, please continue to do what you excel at for as long as u can.
Best Wishes Always Don Brooks
I confess that I don't know that much about the history of fastpitch but I will say that it speaks volumes about Cat that so many people care about her and are willing to offer their congratulations.
In the grand scheme of things, this is a game. No one's life depends on it but lives can be enhanced by it.
I am just so impressed by what I've read in here. I hope you ladies have a safe and happy trip back home.
As a roll model for all young athletes you should be proud in the professional and sportsman-like character you have shown throughout your entire college (Horns!) and Olympic career. Hopefully the Olympic committee will take note of how exciting the games were and the dedication you and all the women in the tournament showed in these games and will reinstate Softball as part of future Olympic Games. Take care and best of luck to you in whatever you do.
Rob

I loved you in the Olympics, you were great. I you be come a softball coach one day. That sticks that you geys didn't get the gold but to me you guys are the best softball team in the world.
You and the whole team have done the USA proud. I am so honored to be able to say i saw the team play in person in Oklahoma City. I have my Pink T-Shirt to cherish. Try not to be sad, look toward the future. I want to see you all play again. So whatever we can do to help you get Softball back in the Olympics let us know. Im just one person but you have tons of fans, and i know everyone will help. You are a true Champion in every sence of the word.
Best Wishes,
Dana Vaughn
I have a 15yr old and a 13yr old and a 10yr old. They all dream of being just like the Cat Ostermans and the Jenny Finches of the world.
Thank you for being you:)
I coach high school freshman girls softball in Michigan and help out with youth fastpich. I also follow the sport at both the college and international level. I want you to know that you are a role model for all the young girls that I have coached. Almost every one them says Cat Osterman when I ask who their favorite player is. YOu have made a great impact on the sport of softball. I know you and your USA softball teamates are feeling disapointed right now. Please hold your heads high and know what a difference you have made.
Thanks for all you do.
I just basically wanted to just simply say you are amazing. Well the whole team is
amazing.... BUT.... this might get me in a bit of trouble... You my beautiful lady is amazingly beautiful.
Even though you guys won the silver... believe me in all of our heart every single one of you guys still hold the gold one.
Love ya !
My daughter just loves you, you are such an inspiration. Keep your head up we still Love Team USA ... you guys are GOLD Medal winners in the USA.
I know it's hard to look for the Silver ( no pun intended) lining in this dark cloud in softball, but let me just say perhaps the lost for the gold will strike a nerve with the IOC and see that even the USA can lose and reinstate the sport that you , my daughters and so many other young girls love.
I cried when WE lost! I say we because we were all there with you in spirit. Tell the rest of the girls that WE are pround of them all. Keep on inspiring!
Thanks for all you have done for softball.
My prayers are with you and the team,
My name is Rielly and I'm 13. I live in Agawam, Massachusetts and I play softball for the Agawam Warriors. I am the catcher and this year our team finished the season 36-0. Everyone on team USA is an inspiration to us. We all have the dream to be just like you guys when we get up there. You're such an amazing pitcher and teammate and you inspire us on and off the field.
I haven't missed an Olympic softball game this year. I've stayed up wickeddd late and i've gotten up wayy earlier than i would have liked. Haha but I was up at 6:00am to watch the gold medal game thursday. You pitched such a great game. Keep your chin up! Nobody wins 'em all (:
thanks for reading! please please please comment me back! it would mean a lot.

P.S. Tell monica i love her toooo. and that we need to be able to post comments on her website. ;]
i'm lauren brodeur a 13 year old pitcher on rielly's team (the warriors) as seen below! I've been a huge fan of you since your days at Texas, and it's been a pleasure watching you on tv. honestly, i do learn things from watching you pitch that i think back to when im on the mound pitching for my team. i always try to keep my intensity and focus like you do in the games. With the tips i picked up from watching you pitch, i successfully threw my first no-hitter game. Now I know the feeling! thank you for being a role model to me keep up your amaaaazing work, which i think we all know you will (: haha. Also, i'll be in the crowd watching you when you visit mohegan sun in connecticut for the softball coaches convention!

i was actually just wondering how the twilight series was??
i've been hearing from everyone that i should read it...
I know you're probably disappointed, but congrats to you and your teammates on the silver medal. Even Greco-Roman wrestler Alexandr Karelin, who went undefeated for 13 years, eventually lost a match. It just means you guys are human, and on one particular day got unlucky. The double and homer off you were pure flukes, those pitches were so far out of the zone no one should have been able to hit them anywhere but straight up. Our hitters kept hitting the ball hard but right at people. That game is a classic example of why titles in baseball and softball should never be decided by one game. In a series the better team usually wins. In one game anything can happen. In this case the much better team lost. All true American softball fans are still very proud of you and the team.
I was thinking today that as a result of what happened, perhaps the IOC will be more likely to reinstate softball for 2016 now that someone besides the US has won the gold medal. So as painful as the loss is now, it may well be good for softball in the long run. Maybe that thought will make you feel a little less bad. I hope so.
I don't know if I'll ever see you pitch again, so let me take this opportunity to thank you for all the hard work you've done to get as good as you are. You're like the Greg Maddux of softball, and I've loved watching you pitch when I've had the chance. You're truly awesome, and you'll probably always be my all-time favorite softball player.
Take care, and I wish you nothing but success and happiness as your life goes on from here.
Your fan,
Dave
I will refrain from saying anything about the Olympics because I know that you already have heard many renditions of people's comments.
I just wanted to tell you that watching you play throughout your college career (yes I actually followed it), through Athens and through the latest round of international play and the new Olympics, has inspired me. You're 2 years younger than me, but you have given me a new sense of hope for what role models of our generation should strive to be. You are truly a great sportsperson, a terrifically telented pitcher and no doubt a great young woman. You provide a lot of inspiration not only for younger players coming up in the sport, but also for out-of-shape beer leaguers like me.
Thanks for gracing me with being able to watch you play,
Dustin
Great game against Japan, kinda the same thing happened to me in my championship softball game. I was pitching, they took me out, someone else pitched, and we lost to a great team. I did good and so did you. NO ONE can win them all. I saw you play in Stratford, CT. I got your autograph and you also sent me one for my b-day which meant ALOT. I have looked up to you since I saw you play for the first time on the Texas team. I wanna find a cardboard life size cut out of you, I almost got one, but some one else got it first. Good luck and when you feel down, just remember how far you've made it,
Best of Wishes,

you guys played great. and now we have a reason to bring softball back, to reclaim our title. haha. but seriously you guys make this possible, you give girls something to work towards, maybe its not the olympics, but just to be as good as you or anyone else n the team. don't worry about not having softball in the olympics, there are too many people who are WAY to upset about it, to let them not bring it back. ill try to come down to Chicago or wherever you are, to see you play. have a safe flight home.
Allie
Just wanted to say I really enjoyed watching you and the rest of the girls play, in the olympics and that I'm a HUGE fan. Congrats on winning the silver medal

MLB: Roger Clemens has 184 career losses.
NFL: John Elway lost the Super Bowl three times.
NHL: Wayne Gretzky's trade from Edmonton to Los Angeles sent US hockey popularity into orbit. Of note, however, Gretzky lost the only Stanley Cup he played for while a King.

There is something going on in Connecticut that you should know about. Imagine if you were held back because you're good at what you do...

9-Year-Old Boy Told He’s Too Good to Pitch
By JOHN CHRISTOFFERSEN, Associated Press
Tuesday August 26, 2008
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP)—Nine-year-old Jericho Scott is a good baseball player— too good, it turns out.
The right-hander has a fastball that tops out at about 40 mph. He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more. When Jericho took the mound anyway last week, the opposing team forfeited the game, packed its gear and left, his coach said.
Officials for the three-year-old league, which has eight teams and about 100 players, said they will disband Jericho’s team, redistributing its players among other squads, and offered to refund $50 sign-up fees to anyone who asks for it. They say Jericho’s coach, Wilfred Vidro, has resigned.
But Vidro says he didn’t quit and the team refuses to disband. Players and parents held a protest at the league’s field on Saturday urging the league to let Jericho pitch.
“He’s never hurt any one,” Vidro said. “He’s on target all the time. How can you punish a kid for being too good?”
The controversy bothers Jericho, who says he misses pitching.
“I feel sad,” he said. “I feel like it’s all my fault nobody could play.”
Jericho’s coach and parents say the boy is being unfairly targeted because he turned down an invitation to join the defending league champion, which is sponsored by an employer of one of the league’s administrators.
Jericho instead joined a team sponsored by Will Power Fitness. The team was 8-0 and on its way to the playoffs when Jericho was banned from pitching.
“I think it’s discouraging when you’re telling a 9-year-old you’re too good at something,” said his mother, Nicole Scott. “The whole objective in life is to find something you’re good at and stick with it. I’d rather he spend all his time on the baseball field than idolizing someone standing on the street corner.”
League attorney Peter Noble says the only factor in banning Jericho from the mound is his pitches are just too fast.
“He is a very skilled player, a very hard thrower,” Noble said. “There are a lot of beginners. This is not a high-powered league. This is a developmental league whose main purpose is to promote the sport.”
Noble acknowledged that Jericho had not beaned any batters in the co-ed league of 8- to 10-year-olds, but say parents expressed safety concerns.
“Facing that kind of speed” is frightening for beginning players, Noble said.
League officials say they first told Vidro that the boy could not pitch after a game on Aug. 13. Jericho played second base the next game on Aug. 16. But when he took the mound Wednesday, the other team walked off and a forfeit was called.
League officials say Jericho’s mother became irate, threatening them and vowing to get the league shut down.
“I have never seen behavior of a parent like the behavior Jericho’s mother exhibited Wednesday night,” Noble said.
Scott denies threatening any one, but said she did call the police.
League officials suggested that Jericho play other positions, or pitch against older players or in a different league.
Local attorney John Williams was planning to meet with Jericho’s parents Monday to discuss legal options.
“You don’t have to be learned in the law to know in your heart that it’s wrong,” he said. “Now you have to be punished because you excel at something?”
Thank you bunches <3 Brenna!

I am sorry to hear the bad news. I wish there was something that every one could do. Is there any way of starting up a petition? I am sure that the world would hate for it to end here. Again i am sorry about the bad news and i hope that some thing good at least comes out of it. Keep up the good work on being a positive role model. Oh yeah i am sure you dont remember but i meet you in the San Diego airport about 3 years ago. well go to go. Navy Chief Navy Pride.
