I wish there was something that every one could do. Is there any way of starting up a petition? I am sure that the world would hate for it to end here. Again i am sorry about the bad news and i hope that some thing good at least comes out of it. Keep up the good work on being a positive role model. Oh yeah i am sure you dont remember but i meet you in the San Diego airport about 3 years ago. well go to go. Unfortunately I didn't make it in line in time to meet you in Ohio. I was fortunate enough to get 10 of you 15 which was so surreal to me. I played softball from the age of 5 until I was about 18. I began playing all year around in '96 when I was in sixth grade also the first year Softball made its debut in the Olympics. My biggest regret in my life so far is not playing my senior year (just because of the coach). I had the love for the game and should have just sucked it up, who knew it would have come back to haunt me. I could have then maybe played in college if I had that extra year. I wish I could take it all back. I have lived through USA Softball since then and am so proud of what you ladies have recently accomplished. Being that I'm 24, now, I have you guys both younger and older than me as role models. I so wish I could play somewhere now, but there is no fastpitch in Ohio except for Akron Racers, however as I said before being that I don't have any records or stats I don't have a chance. I'm sure you get so many inspirational messages and helping hands, but if there is anything I can do to help support Back Softball Please let me know. My dreams are through you all now. Lastly you must know I had to say something about Beijing. I live in Columbus, Ohio so every game but a few were on at midnight live. I watched every game live on TV and online at the same time, as well as keeping track of all the strikeouts you three ladies earned. I stayed up till 4am waiting to see if the Canada game would come back on. I woke up early to see you ladies in those later night games you had, where it was 6 or 7 am here, which is huge because I am not a morning person at all. I stood by you all 110% those entire 21 days you were there, with my own superstitions to where my bound for beijing shirt with my own pair of softball shorts never taking off my red, white and blue bracelets and wearing proudly my Jennie Finch tattoo! ( Not to mention doing this while working three jobs) I fought through the lack of sleep easily knowing what you ladies were representing in Beijing for us! Gold, Silver or Bronze are only a color of medal, they may or may not represent 1st, 2nd or 3rd. To me ‘Gold’ is dedication, heart, role models, the best or a representation of ones entire country. Team USA Softball is definitely without a doubt Gold in my eyes, in an interview I believe it was you that said something along the lines of, you win some you lose some, but it was Japans day this time. Hopefully this does help bring softball back, it’s a hard thing to swallow that that is how the USA had to go out for now to prove a point, but I believe it will help. You all played your hearts out and you must be proud of your performance, you did awesome and just remember the entire games as a whole: 2nd Olympian to have a no hitter, which is a hard feat to the Aussies. You’re awesome Cat! I hope to meet you some day possibly next Spring at one of the NPF games if you play! I have 10 pictures with your teammates I need a few more to make it complete. Wanted to know if I send you a photo that I took at one of those Ohio games, if you would sign that and send it back to me? Thanks for reading Cat, and I wish you the best here on out and hopefully we’ll meet sometime soon!

Re: Sunday, August 17, 2008

No, Richardson is in Dallas...not close to Houston. Yes I do play summer ball. It's the school team but we play with the Garland league...but we play different school and also some select teams as well. And we also have fall ball games it's also with Garland. Well I'm 15 bout to turn 16 in less than 2months!! I play 1st base. During the summer league we had 2 new coach's that play on the Texas Tech softball team which was really cool cuz they helped us improve on our game. So did you get a scholarship to De Paul?

Re: Sunday, August 17, 2008

hey cat i look up to you so much like you dont even know youve definately been my idol since texas....i love softball so much i can never get enough of it i play for 4 teams its jus and amazing sport.sucks its not gunna be back for 8 years i really hope you return i was up for every game in 08 i even stayed up for the final game wich was on 6 am and bout that game doesnt even matter i know you guys wanted gold but in my eyes you guys def got it your the best team out there but i didnt care you were pitching so it was worth it..i have your glove, bat, your usa jersey and some wrist bands spent alot of money but definalty worth it....!!!!

Re: Sunday, August 17, 2008

Hi Cat- Just wanted to say "Thanks" for the incredible job you and the entire USA softball team did in Bejing. Imagine if you were held back because you're good at what you do...

You are an opinion maker. Please read the following AP news story, and if it seems appropriate to you, consider sending a message to your fellow athlete or to his league.

9-Year-Old Boy Told He’s Too Good to Pitch

By JOHN CHRISTOFFERSEN, Associated Press
Tuesday August 26, 2008

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP)—Nine-year-old Jericho Scott is a good baseball player— too good, it turns out.

The right-hander has a fastball that tops out at about 40 mph. He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more. When Jericho took the mound anyway last week, the opposing team forfeited the game, packed its gear and left, his coach said.

Officials for the three-year-old league, which has eight teams and about 100 players, said they will disband Jericho’s team, redistributing its players among other squads, and offered to refund $50 sign-up fees to anyone who asks for it. They say Jericho’s coach, Wilfred Vidro, has resigned.

But Vidro says he didn’t quit and the team refuses to disband. Players and parents held a protest at the league’s field on Saturday urging the league to let Jericho pitch.

“He’s never hurt any one,” Vidro said. “He’s on target all the time. How can you punish a kid for being too good?”

The controversy bothers Jericho, who says he misses pitching.

“I feel sad,” he said. “I feel like it’s all my fault nobody could play.”

Jericho’s coach and parents say the boy is being unfairly targeted because he turned down an invitation to join the defending league champion, which is sponsored by an employer of one of the league’s administrators.

Jericho instead joined a team sponsored by Will Power Fitness. The team was 8-0 and on its way to the playoffs when Jericho was banned from pitching.

“I think it’s discouraging when you’re telling a 9-year-old you’re too good at something,” said his mother, Nicole Scott. “The whole objective in life is to find something you’re good at and stick with it. I’d rather he spend all his time on the baseball field than idolizing someone standing on the street corner.”

League attorney Peter Noble says the only factor in banning Jericho from the mound is his pitches are just too fast.

“He is a very skilled player, a very hard thrower,” Noble said. “There are a lot of beginners. This is not a high-powered league. This is a developmental league whose main purpose is to promote the sport.”

Noble acknowledged that Jericho had not beaned any batters in the co-ed league of 8- to 10-year-olds, but say parents expressed safety concerns.

“Facing that kind of speed” is frightening for beginning players, Noble said.

League officials say they first told Vidro that the boy could not pitch after a game on Aug. 13. Jericho played second base the next game on Aug. 16. But when he took the mound Wednesday, the other team walked off and a forfeit was called.

League officials say Jericho’s mother became irate, threatening them and vowing to get the league shut down.

“I have never seen behavior of a parent like the behavior Jericho’s mother exhibited Wednesday night,” Noble said.

Scott denies threatening any one, but said she did call the police.

League officials suggested that Jericho play other positions, or pitch against older players or in a different league.

Local attorney John Williams was planning to meet with Jericho’s parents Monday to discuss legal options.

“You don’t have to be learned in the law to know in your heart that it’s wrong,” he said. “Now you have to be punished because you excel at something?”

Re: Sunday, August 17, 2008

Once you get back to Chi-Town...a Big Al's Italian Beef (w/peppers) and a nice game of Whirlyball

Re: Sunday, August 17, 2008

hi my name sierah and i love you you are my idle i am also a left-handed pitcher just like you and i love softball but i am not a fan of coffee but my mom works at starbucks lol !!!
i was wondering if you would email me someway please it would mean the world to me. do i have to give it to cuz other people can see it do you have a secret way or something but please cat all i ask for and maybe i can get my mom to send some starbucks mugs to you if i can please please please please

Re: Sunday, August 17, 2008

Hey Cat, i thought that your team did SOOOOOO AMAZING in the olympics and you guys were the BEST softball team out there. even though you got the silver medal, you and your team are the ones who really deserved to win that gold medal and to me you did because you and your team are the GREATEST softball team out there, you guys played your hardest, and no one deserves that gold medal besides you and your team=). i watched every game that you and your team played in and you guys did GREAT!!!=)=)=) Cat, i was just so glad that i got to see you pitch in the olympics and i loved watching you pitch that no hitter game against austrailia, that was GREAT!!!=)=) through out the whole olympics, you pitched SOOOOOO GREAT, and i thought that you were the BEST softball pitcher out there!!!=)=)=) YOU ARE MY ROLE MODEL AND I LOOK UP TO YOU, SOME DAY I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE YOU AND PITCH AS GREAT AS YOU=)=)=) YOUR THE BEST PITCHER IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE UNIVERSE AND YOU ALWAYS WILL BE!!!=)=)=) HOPEFULLY THEY PUT SOFTBALL BACK INTO THE OLYMPICS BY 2016 AND HOPEFULLY I CAN BE APART OF TEAM USA BY THEN BECAUSE I'LL BE OLD ENOUGH AND I REALLY HOPE THAT YOU WILL STILL BE ON TEAM USA IN 2016 BECAUSE THEN I'LL BE ABLE TO PLAY ON THE SAME TEAM WITH YOU, THAT WOULD BE SOOOOO GREAT=)=)=) THAT IS LIKE MY BIGGEST DREAM, TO PLAY ON TEAM USA AND BE ABLE PLAY ON TEAM USA WITH YOU!!!=)=)=) YOU AND YOUR TEAM ARE THE GREATEST SOFTBALL TEAM IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE UNIVERSE, YOU GUYS ROCK AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST SOFTBALL TEAM OUT THERE!!!=)=)=) YOU ROCK CAT #8, USA-USA-USA, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, TEAM USA ROCKS,WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!=)=)=) YOUR #1 BIGGEST FAN IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE UNIVERSE, KENNEDY #25

Re: Sunday, August 17, 2008

First I cried. My family lives in the 77084 zip code. Congratulations on your awesome performance... As the chair of the Health and Wellness Committee for the Houston West Chamber of Commerce, I would like to invite you to a fundraiser luncheon we are sponsoring at the Omni Westside on Sept. 26th at Eldridge and I-10. It is a fundraiser and we don't have a huge budget, but we can pay you a little if you will be available. The event will be sold out with over 400 of your local fans in attendance and it does deal with health and wellness issues for our local community... You can contact me through the Houston West Chamber of commerce if you think you can make it. I am a huge fan! I watched all of your games even though my parents thought I was crazy for staying up that late or getting up early. I just wanted to tell you that you did a great job and as much as I hate to admit it no one can win 'em all. Still team USA did an amazing job and you should be very proud. Especially since you beat Japan twice. I saw the picture in the USA Today with the cleats at home plate and it touched me (that wan't you though was it? It looked like Taria Flowers). It's not fair to take softball out of the olympics especially since the IOC claims they want to promote female athletes. Hopefully they'll bring it back in 2016. Have a safe trip home and keep your head up!
Speed Racer 12

Re: Sunday, August 17, 2008

Cat, congrats on an amazing job! You were awesome and it is difficult for me to understand why Japan would get the Gold despite losing two games. Team USA should be the gold medal winner because had no loses during the games. I also hope you can teach the future Team USA your amazing skills!

Re: Sunday, August 17, 2008

How was the closing ceremonies? was it as awesome as the opening? I bet you're happy to be almost if not already home at this point in time. You've had a very long but good spring and summer and did a good job everytime you were in the circle. Forgive me for any references to baseball terms instead of softball in any of my previous comments as I'm also a big baseball fan. As you can probably tell, I'm a Cubs fan but I also like the Longhorns baseball team. I'm sorry if my previous post has caused you any problems but ever since I posted them I've read comments from people saying how are you feeling. If there is anything any of us can do for you and for softball to help get it reinstated, just let us know. Just hang in there and keep smiling. you really are a beautiful inspiration to many people who would do anything for you.
A CAT Fan Forever
Cubbygirl

Re: Sunday, August 17, 2008

Miss Osterman, I've watched you since you began at UT and have long been fascinated by your skills. I don't watch much sports but you and Miss Fench hooked me on women's softball. I just want to thank you for sharing your marvelous talents with so many of us from the great TEXAS and with the world. When the gold medal game ended, I was just sick for 3-4 days, mostly from feeling for what you all were going through. If there is any chance that you or someone who helps you could let me know of future games of yours that might be on TV, I would greatly love to know.
Thank you so much... I absolutely love to watch you pitch.
Paque of 7

Re: Sunday, August 17, 2008

Hey Cat,
Just wanted to say I really enjoyed watching you and the rest of the girls play, in the olympics and that I'm a HUGE fan. I have been a big fan of yours for a while now and have loved watching your career progress from being a longhorn to an olympian and I look forward to watching you have even more success in the future! Let us know if there is anything we can do to ensure a spot for softball in 2016! Keep up the fantastic work!
Lots of love from Ohio,
Anya
