how do i get better at pitching?
  • softballchampion · 5 months ago
Hey Cat! I just wanted to let you know that I am a HUGE fan of you and all those pitchers on USA! I am a pitcher too. I watch you all the time on TV. You are really good. I hope I can grow up to be as good as you and Finch. I remember last year when my team won the Championship game. 17-16. Let me tell you, it was a nail-biter!! And then my team won another championship game for school softball. 11-2 i think. Okay well I just wanted to chat! Thanks Cat!!

Nice hearing from you again even though i've been following you on Twitter. I bet you really like playing with Megan again. I watched you pitch one night on the computer for Rockford and you looked awesome. I followed the Canada Cup on gametracker but was a nervous wreck following the championship game. You pitched well everytime you were in the circle but I felt like i was reliving the gold medal game all over again during the championship game. I'm glad you're enjoying Team USA and I want to wish you and the team the best of luck in thr World Cup. I'm going to try to come down Saturday if nothing goes wrong. This is my 5th try at seeing you since 2006. Good Luck with your homework. I don't know how you do it girl. I know you'll get a good grade because that's the type of determination you have. I bet Tucker really misses you. I'm sure you really miss him also. Got to go for now. Takr Care, Good Luck and hopefully I'll see you Saturday.

Hey, How are you Cat? I'm a huge fan of you and what you have done for womens' sports. My name is Rick. I've watched you grow from Texas to the present. Very impresive! I myself have played softball...my best year in our championship season I batted 826. When I can I watch your womens' teams' games as I've watched the KFC world cup of softball, I'm really amazed by what you and the other gals can do. I wont drift to much farther, but I offer you a dinner at a restaurant of your choice in western MA where I live just to say hi, if nothing else. As a fellow softball player, it would be my pleasure to meet the great Cat Osterman... w!&&le... If you might like to write back, I'll explain what that means. I think you would appreciate the nice compliment ;)

Cat, my name is shelby miles. I am 12 years old right now. Ihave watched you play softball for years. I saw how you loved the game and what you did in it. That inspired me to try pitching. Right now i am the main pitcher for my team.I am trying to get my pitches faster and more controlled. I am a right handed pitcher and when i throw the ball it goes to the top right hand of the plate. I have tried moving over to the left of the bag and making sure my hand is right. I was wondering if you had any advice for me on improving the speed in my pitching. If you have time please respond.

    thanks,
    shelby lynn

Hello Cat, I am an 11 yr old left handed pitcher from Nebraska. My family and I are driving to Oklahoma City for the 2009 kfc world cup. Do you and the rest of the team have time after games to meet with fans? I have a huge poster of you on my wall in my room and would to met and the rest of the team while in OKC. If that is not possible I understand. Good luck and go USA.

    Thanks
Jessie (god only made a few of us pitchers perfect Cat, the rest are right handers)

Hey Cat, hows the Management courses going? I am pursuing the same degree with Park University online. I am almost at 82 hours. Some of these courses are tough. Dont always have the most time to work on homework with being in the military and all. Anyways good luck with classes and keep dominating the pitchers mound.
  • cota · 5 months ago
    Cat,
I do not follow Softball, but after watching you play the other night, I very well might start. The strange part is that it wasnt even a current game. It was a pre-recorded game from 2007. I was enthralled by you, however. Sure it could be due to the fact that I was sitting in a bar, in Juneau, Alaska, looking out at the ocean and all the amazing sights around me. I still just kept right on watching you throw that ball, though. Anyway, I am sure I am just one of hundreds of guys who thinks you are about the hottest thing going, but i just thought I would let you know.

I want to say again thanks for your kind words last year for the girls I took to see you play and pitch. They came back this year more focused and all agreed that your the reason for it. You may not realize that the 5 minutes you spent talking with them meant so much. You are truely special and a great role model for the younger girls.

Hi Cat, Greetings from California! You pitched an amazing game tonight and we enjoyed watching Team USA in action again. Thank goodness for ESPN!!!! Cassie had a shortened softball season this year. She got hit on the hand with a ball in the 4th game of the season and dislocated her finger. Like a trooper, she continued to go to the games to support her team and is looking forward to next year. Keep up the great work on the field and in school.
  • Jessica Fischer · 5 months ago
Hello Cat. Just want to say I have followed your career (and the US women's team) and think you are an absolutely phenomenal player and an inspiration to so many young athletes. You pitched an incredible game tonight! I know you are from the Houston area, but if you ever get to the DFW area (specifically arlington) I would love for you to come have dinner at the restaurant that I run....Trail Dust Steak House. It would be an honor. Good luck against Australia!

    Hi, Cat.
I just learned of you this past weekend when I watched my first softball game- between Team Usa and Japan. Congratulations on the win. To be honest, I am usually not a sports fan, but I really enjoyed the experience. After the game I looked up your website and some videos of interviews that you have given. You are an exceptional athlete, but also seem to be a well-rounded person and one of authenticity of character and generosity of spirit. The world needs role-models such as you and I thank you for sharing your time and energy with us.
    Blessings.

l loved watching you Saturday night against Japan. You had such a look of revenge on your face. It seemed every pitch was an attempt to make up for the Olympics. Just know you need to just be yourself. We Americans think all of your girls did fantastic in the Olympics and have no reason to feel you let us down. But it was fun to watch you get so serious....................

Cat, You are a great role model to alot of kids. I coach a 10U team in Indianapolis at Edgewood Athletic Association. We are a Rec-League All-Star team going up against travel teams. So far we have a runner-up and 3rd place finish. This week is our home tournament and I was wondering if you could provide some words of wisdom that I could share with the girls. You are idolized by several of them. Being a dad and a former baseball player, my move to fastpitch softball has been alot of fun. Watching my daughter improve and being part of a team has been the joy of my life. Thanks Kenny Hicks

I live in Oklahoma and got to take my children to watch you ladies play Japan on Saturday. We have went to everyone of the College World Series that have been in OKC and because of watching you pitch for Texas, we had to hire a trainer to teach her. She is now going into the 10th grade and is the starting pitcher. You have inspired both of my girls to play and now that is all they want to do. Thank you so much and Congrats!!!!!!!!

    Cat... You are OUTSTNDING pitcher!!

I am a 12 year old pitcher and right now, I pitch about 56 mph. My pitching coach says that amazing for a 12 year old. I know my fastball, change up, and dropball. I will soon be learing my riseball or curveball.

You sent me a picture of you and you also singed it. I was very excited to get it. Thank you so much! :) I really appreciated it.

I am also a big fan of Yukiko Ueno. Dont get me wrong though, you are still an amazing pitcher. I was happy you won against Japan! But Japan tried their best, right? Without Yukiko Ueno there, they had it rough. GREAT JOB!

I wish to wear the Team USA jersey someday. As probably TONS of other girls do, so my chances are... About 2%. Haha. But, nevertheless, I will try my best!!

Hey Cat: I watched the Team USA game vs Australia and congratulations on winning the championship. I hope you weren't upset with not getting the start, but you got the SAVE and pitched very well. In the last inning, the RF made a good catch too! ESPN showed your pitches in slow motion a few times and the ball spin, rotation, and movement were beautiful in slow motion! Good pitching! I hope your summer goes well and do you like these young Team USA players? Some of them can really hit well. Later!

My daughter is taking pitching lessons. The coach is telling her to finish with the palm of her hand facing the ground. Is this correct?

Hey Cat you are such a great inspiration to me and when I grow up I want to be a team USA pitcher just like you. I recently broke my ankle sliding into third base last year and had to get surgery done, but I still love the game and I didn't let it get in the way of me playing this year and I'll never stop loving the game.

Hey Cat, read your tweet on Sunday about pitching like "crap" and how your BFF got ya. I'd like to share a story from my own experience of losing a game at the hands of a "BFF". I pitch in a City Rec league in upstate NY. This season I started on a new team after leaving a team of a close group of my friends that I helped start. We would face each other one time this season and I had that game circled out of all of them as being the game I most wanted to win and not only win but dominate. For 6 innings I did just that, dominate. I through nothing but my 2 seam fastball and nobody but one guy could get around on me. I believe that had 3 hits going into the bottom of the 7th and 2 of them being from this one particular guy that had the quickest bat I have even seen in our league. Anyways, my team was up by 1 and all I had to do was get the last 3 outs. The first batter was my best friend who is also my sons godfather and I have known forever. I have never wanted to strike out someone more than I did him right then. I got 2 quick strikes on him and then somehow he turns on an inside fastball and ropes a double. No panic, I definitely
think I'll get the next guy who happens to be my former catcher. Nope, he ropes another double and now the game is tied. One more and they win, and guess who is up, the one guy on their team that was hitting everything hard all game. As soon as he stepped in I knew the game was over. I figured if it was going to end it was going to end with me throwing him nothing but gas. My best against his, and his won. He crushes the ball like he did all game and I suffer defeat to my old team and my good friends. Worst loss I ever suffered in softball. The fact that I lost to them in the final inning after they could do nothing all game eats at me like crazy. I sucked it up after the game and congratulated them, and like good friends they never rubbed it in. Believe me though, next year I'm going to make sure that it doesn't happen again.

you did not pitch like crap last Sunday against the Pride. You are just human and humans make mistakes. You were brought in in not such a good situation and dealt with it the best you could at that time. You will bounce back against the Bandits just like you bounced back this year after Beijing. Sorry I mentioned that. I hope all goes well for Softball the 13th when the IOC votes. Keep your chin up and that beautiful on your face and hang in there. Good Luck against the Bandits and in the playoffs. You'll be back at Depaul in your office before you know it. When do you get Tucker back? I'm sure he misses his mommy. I'm sorry you lost Duke. He was kind of cute. Take Care and keep in Touch.

What hope did softball have? Here is the committee that decided the fate: http://tinyurl.com/da3d98 So many Europeans who don't play the sport. Forget about the ideals of developing the sport worldwide, appeasing these Europeans is all that mattered. End of story, a sad, sad story. That said, the Olympic exposure to date has boosted the sport, and hopefully WCWS ratings will continue to grow even in the absence of support from the IOC.

what's the difference between world cup and world chamionships?
  • catsbigggestfan0208 · 4 months ago
ya what is the difference? that is a good question..
  • Worla · 4 months ago
World Cup is a tourney in OKC every year except Olympic year. World Championship is every 4 years in between Olympic years. World Championship was an Olympic qualifier (I believe) while World Cup is not.

    Hi Cat.

I play on a 12U team. I've been seeing a local pitching coach who has A LOT of experience. I've been told he's worked with you and Jennie when you were younger, too. Here's the problem. My coaches have watched your team USA DVD and read a few books. They now want to be my pitching coach and have given me an ultimatum - to play on their team I have to pitch how they want me to pitch. I have to put my feet where they want my feet. I have to pitch like you pitch in the video. They disagree with how he has me standing on the mound and how he is teaching different pitches to me. He has sent many kids to play college ball and the pitchers you faced when your olympic team played here were girls he coaches.

What do you think about a team coach who knows very little about pitching telling a player who has a pitching coach that they can't play unless they change their mechanics?

PS - I love watching you play.

Vietnam Vet, I would love to watch you pitch sometime. If I had to throw the ball that hard, I would have to go to the catcher and get my arm back.

This past year has gone so fast. A year ago last Friday the world watched in shock as Team USA lost the gold medal and a lot of people broke down in tears as they saw you in tears. Now today you are the MVP of the NPF Championship and after pitching 5 games in 3 days as only you could do, you lead the Rockford Thunder to the championship. you said in one of your tweets that Bustos was the greatest hitter softball ever had, well you're the best pitcher there's ever been. Congrats on another good year of pitching both for Rockford and Team USA now it's time to concentrate on school and coaching. Congrats on your pitching season and Good Luck on your coaching season.

Hey Cat! My name is Morgan Marshall and i have been playing travelling softball since i was 8. The first time I pitched a game I felt like I was on top of the world. I have tried many different techniques, and so far, the one that has worked best with me is ClubK. If youhave heard of it, it uses the loose and fluid method. I notice how loose you always are when you pitch and how you have a "bulldog" mentality on the rubber. I have the same motion as you do and it has worked very greatly. I'm now pitching a drop curve the same mechanics (turnover) as you do. I hope to excell amazingly in pitching. I'm eleven and will be turning 12 this December and have pitched the speed of 54 before. I have seen you play once at Milligan College as ya'll were on the Bound For Bejing tour. I'm form Church Hill, TN AND play for the Lady FALCONS travelling softball team. YOU are amazing and I want to pitch just like you one day!

    Dear Cat,
My name is Molly and I live in Oregon in the small town of Yamhill. I am 13. My birthday is November 16 1995. I am a big fan of yours ever since I saw you play on TV. I am also a pitcher for my local school team and a pitcher for my tournement team in Dallas, Oregon. I am 5' 6" and I throw 62 MPH and I have 7 different pitches. The fastball(which I don't normally throw) curve ball, rise ball, drop ball, nuckle change, screw ball, and inside curve. I really want to pitch 7 days a week but my coaches say 5 is enough plus all the days that I have actual practice which is about 5 hours a week. If you have any spare time maybe you could give me some ideas how to improve some of my pitches or any other things like some sort of weight training or how to make my fast ball faster and stuff like that!!!! Also I have a poster of you and a whole bunch of pictures and I want to be just like you when I am in highschool and college!!! YOU ARE AMAZING AND MY #1 IDOL!!!!!! GO U.S.A Molly
